Got my latest Sephora catalog!!

I’m going crazy with product wishes!! I just got the latest Sephora catalog.  Too much stuff in there that is driving me crazy!  AHH…

I love their catch-phrase… “Reach your full get-gorgeous potential.”  I’m trying people, you gotta give me some help, I need to get gorgeous FAST!!

The stand out of this catalog is the powdered protection, Peter Thomas Roth Instant Mineral Make UP SPF 30 for $30

It’s got what I’m looking for a matte look, SPF 30 to block out UVA/UVB.  They have some great new deluxe samples, leave  a comment for the code.

Budget $50 per month to spend on beauty

My budget is to spend $50 per month on beauty products.  We’ll see how far that gets me… I will purchase from sephora.com and any other online source.  I will supplement some basics from Walmart or Rite Aid.  I will try to take advantage of Free after rebate items @ Rite Aid as well as free offers connected to beauty products.

This will try to cover the basics except fragrance which I will always receive as a gift fom my husband, lol, at least he’s sure he can’t mess that up!

I’m open to any suggestions/coupon codes, thanks!!

Product Picking

What do you consider when picking products?   If you have allergies or seriously sensitive skin, that may be your first consideration.  If you don’t have those issues, most likely you are looking at the price tag early on in the decision making process.

Some products are just too  far out of reach to even bother looking at.  I love Dr. Perricone’s line, but a $500+ price tag is just too much to even bother with.  I have his cleanser and have used the supplements in the past which I really liked but with 3 college educations to save for, $500+ is out of my league.   There are lots of products I’d like and I’m sure work better than cheaper choices.

So, what’s a girl to do? there’s only one way to balance our posh desires with financial responsibility… Picking reasonably priced products in our beauty repertoire!  Save where you can, for some it will be on mascara, on others it will be on moisturizers, nail polish or (insert your idea)  then splurge on one or two items.

Another way to save is with a signature product, for me,  it’s my fragrance, morning, noon and night I’m wearing Chanel Gardenia.  This one step saves me time and money, not to mention the dusty clutter of lots of perfume bottles.   I just can’t imagine wearing anything else AND it has the added benefit of a nice collection (I’m up to 6) of the same bottle.

Gorgeous Feminists

I was just thinking about the women I grew up looking at and admiring.  Wonder Woman was the major woman I admired, I looked up to her, she was beautiful, perfectly groomed and could kick any guys tail! Wonderwoman was a hero so it was expected that she be capable.  Another show I loved was Charlie’s Angels, those were women who could outsmart, outwit and outplay any man!  These women really stuck in my mind as combining the best of both worlds.  Just like the Charly commercial, I can bring home the bacon, fry it up in the pan… these women were feminists while at the same time gorgeous.

Beauty Blogging

Beauty blogging is a lot of fun.  I haven’t spent this much time thinking about make up since junior high school!  Blogging is simple and anyone can have a blog in just minutes!  The Steeping Beauty blog is about all the aspects of beauty - including the inner beauty.  If you share a passion for beauty and blogging I’d love to add you to my blogroll.  I’d especially like to find mommy beauty bloggers that love great products. Blogging is a great way to promote your other businesses.

Steeping Beauty Blogging Spa Brows into Oblivion

I’ve noticed around the net it’s hard to find pictures of real people.  Everyone has an avatar or no pictures of themselves at all.  I think it is especially important to see beauty bloggers.

It comes down to confidence, if you can give me tips, then you can show yourself.  I’m not a professional or anything, but it kills me when I go to a spa and see the techs with acne scars or even worst BAD Heavy Makeup in the wrong color or not blended!  I guess I’d have the same reaction in the blogging world.

The ultimate scare is the spa brow! There should definately be some type of program for spa brow intervention, it is really horrible to see a beautiful woman that takes great care of herself and then you look up at those brows! ewwww… I had a spa brow once and I had to tell them to take off the inside bottom part, so my brows were ultra thin BUT at least balanced.  The lady got in a tiff but life is too short to walk around with spa brows! And you guessed it, SHE had spa brows too!

Now that I think about it my two worst experiences were in spas.  The one time I described above, and the second time in a beautiful spa in Miami… they ran out of wax removal paper, so she re-used the paper and took off 1/3 of my eyebrow! it was terrible!! My best experience and where I go now is my local cheapo nail salon.  I get my brows waxed for $8, I give them a $2 tip and they are happy.  My brows are always perfectly shaped and it’s usually fast.

I’ll be blogging what I preach and post a photo as soon as I can find my camera! grrr…

What is the Benefit to giving up on a brand?

I have to admit, I’m done with Benefit cosmetics.  When I first saw them, I loved the look of the pinup girls and pinks.   I had my face done once and bought a face cream I didn’t care for.  Then I bought the Bathina stuff from Sephora because it looked so cute but was disapointed by it!  Benefit products definately look better in the box than they look/feel on me!  I don’t know what it is, just cannot get into their products.  It’s to the point that I steer TOTALLY clear of their counter because the look of the products is what gets you, not the quality.  When do you give up on a brand?

I forgot to mention…

I forgot to mention… I BOUGHT the domain yesterday from go daddy, use code gb1 for 10% off!!

Stainiac Stainiac Stainiac

A while back I bought Stainiac from Sephora.com  I remember using it a few times but TOTALLY forgot about it for the past 3 months at least.

I just found it in my husband’s medicine cabinet! What the heck has he been doing?@>!!  Anyway, I am back in love with it, it’s back in my make-up bag (my favorite one that is) ready for use!

Girl2004 is into me putting make up on her, I’ve tried giving her a chapstick but she keeps losing it, so the past two days I’ve been putting this on her to blush her cheeks and stain her lips.  I really like when I can use one product for two things like that, it’s a good value @ $14 and very practical to use.

I guess I’ll have to break down and buy it…

I saw Teri Hatcher on Oprah promoting this book Burnt Toast a while back.  Ever since I’ve been combing the thrifts looking for it.  The theme, as Hatcher described it, fits totally with the whole being last and taking the least desirable (burnt toast) for oneself while giving the best to everyone else.  I can totally relate and I bet a lot of other mothers can too.

I also can appreciate what she went through having to see her abuser on a regular basis.  I am SO impressed that she testified against him, good for her!!  She’s proven to be not only a woman of beauty (it seems she looks better as she gets older, doesn’t it?) but also a woman of great spirit and guts - a true Steeping Beauty!

By the way I’m having Desperate Housewife withdrawals, it’s going to be a loooong summer…
